How Your Google Ranking Improves Your Business

When you submit an article to an article directory, you may be thinking that the source of traffic or visitors to your web site will be coming from the article directory itself. That is actually not the case.

Although people can eventually find your site by going to an article directory, reading your article and clicking the link in your resource box to get to your web site, that’s not the way how article marketing generates traffic.

In reality, improved search engine ranking is the key. The most dramatic improvements to your web site’s popularity come from a good search engine ranking. Search engine ranking is the place where your web site appears in the results list when someone in your target market conducts a Google search.

The words the searcher types into Google are called “keywords” from the web site owner’s perspective. If you can make it so that your web site ranks high whenever someone types in keywords associated with your web site, then you can dramatically increase your web site traffic over the long term.

But how high does your web site needs to rank? Put yourself in the shoes of the person who is searching for information on the web. You type in your search terms and let Google generate a list of results for you. The results go on and on for pages. But most of us usually only look at the first page and most likely just the first few results.

We believe the top result will have the best chance of giving us the information we’re searching for so we pay attention to the No. 1 result first. If we find what we’re locating there, then the search ends. So this should give you a clue if you’re trying to have your web site listed higher in the rankings - -the higher the better.
